My name is Gina Giebner and I am an advanced specialist gastrointestinal and oncology dietitian with more than 20 years of clinical experience. I work as a Macmillan specialist dietitian at The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre in Glasgow and in private practice.
Generic nutrition advice doesn't account for the specific ways surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy or hormone therapy can change your digestion. I sit at the intersection of oncology and gastroenterology — identifying the real, treatable cause of your symptoms, not applying a one-size-fits-all diet sheet.
My specialist area is the nutritional management of gastrointestinal side effects and survivorship issues following prostate and other cancer treatment, particularly bowel dysfunction after pelvic radiotherapy, hormone therapy and surgery.
This includes bowel urgency, diarrhoea, altered bowel habits, bloating, food fear and nutritional compromise, all of which can have a major impact on confidence and quality of life long after treatment has ended.
Over recent years I have become increasingly aware of the lack of access many people now have to specialist support and evidence-based nutritional guidance.
In response to this, I recently developed “The Bowel Freedom Method”, an online educational programme designed specifically for men experiencing bowel dysfunction after prostate cancer treatment.
The programme focuses on practical, evidence-based strategies to help patients better understand why symptoms occur and how to improve bowel control, confidence, nutrition and quality of life. It includes:
• 6 expert-led educational modules
• Printable trackers and resources
• Food and fluid strategies
• Guidance around bowel regulation and OTC support
• Confidence and emergency planning strategies
• Long-term recovery and food reintroduction support
